Audio Architecture
Using sound in a space will bring out a new age of architecture. The Audio Architecture project has a variety of applications to adapt many spaces not only a building but also a whole city. It can also reproduce the sound of buildings that no longer exist in which people will be able to an indirect experience. Sound is an important factor, because it has an effect on the people’s emotion and the atmosphere of a situation. As an example, cookie seems to more delicious when using the sound of crunching in an advertisement on TV, Likewise, sound can also change our emotion and feeling from the space. So far, when choosing a house, people usually concern a visual factor not focusing on the audio. However, now the situation has changed. Locating a sound in three dimensions makes it possible that people have abilities to make their own atmosphere. Changing of sound in a specific space makes our mind altered. If we produce sound in the house or the city, we could design our own space, which makes the space special. We can imagine that we live in the rural area surrounded with nature by using a sound. Soundtracks of architecture would be able to one necessary part of our life.

Vocabularies on the labels in RISD museum.
Design Vocabulary on the Label
1. Simple appearance
: Vertical and horizontal lines are positioned in layers or planes that do not intersect, thereby allowing each element to exist independently and unobstructed by other elements.
2. Complex dovetailed construction
: Using many screws and wooden wedges in order to joint and reinforce many pieces of wood at angles.
3. A functional chair
: This is a useful chair rather than decorative, focusing on how useful it is. Reducing any decorative factors, this chair stresses the roles and the purpose of chair.
4. De stijl
: From the Dutch for “The Style”, De stijl was a Dutch artistic movement founded in 1917. The artistic philosophy is known as neoplasticism – the new plastic art. Proponents of De Stijl sought to express a new utopian ideal of spiritual harmony and order. They advocated pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and colors.
5. A reduction of form and color
: Simplifying visual compositions to the vertical and horizontal directions, and using only primary colors along with black and white.
6. Abstraction
: This does not depict objects in the natural world, but instead uses color and form in a nonrepresentational way. Viewers can not recognize what the painter draws in the painting. The images are difficult or impossible to identify. We can regard the abstract art as “Non-figurative art” or “Non-objective art.”
7. Looping skeins of color
: There are mixing and overlapping colors on the surface of the canvas spontaneously and they are expressed as free and bounding lines.
8. Dense surface
: A lot of colors exist together on the surface, making a painting have thickness.
9. Scattering
: A painter throws or drops various colors so that they spread all over the canvas. Because of scattering technique, there is no rule or reputation of colors in the painting.
10. Intimate scale
: An Intimate scale encourages close examination of the painting’s construction.
11. hard-edge
: By using strongly contrastive colors just beside each other, outlines of each plane catch viewers’ eyes very well.
12. Geometric abstraction
: Expressing a general idea rather than one relating to a particular object, using regular shapes, such as squares, rectangles, circles and cubes.
13. Equally weighted
: The elements of the painting are arranged equally on either side, giving the painting balance.
14. No reference to three-dimensional forms
: The artist does not adding design considerations in that the object will have only one side, which means that there’s no depth in the painting.

Design Vocabulary
1. Anomaly: This is different from what is usual or expected. We can use this word when we find something not belonging to a painting. For instance, if we find a line in the pointillism painting which usually consists of only dots, it could be an anomaly. Anomaly can be used as painter’s distinguishing mark.
2. Optical mixture: Unlike mixing color in a palette, optical mixture is the phenomenon which occurs when small particles of different colors are mixed in the eye. For example, the pointillism painters use this phenomenon, making mixed different colors look like one color.
3. Organic architecture: Organic architecture is integration of architecture with its natural surroundings. Also, every part of the building has connected to each other like a living organism. Many of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectures appear as if they have evolved from their environment. Wright often designed the interior and even furniture to create buildings that were integrated with nature not only outside but also inside.

5. Balance: It is the concept of visual equilibrium, and relates to our physical sense of balance. There are two ways of successful compositions: symmetrical or asymmetrical balance.
6. Unity: This is the state of different groups being joined together to form a single organization. In art, it refers that all of the parts are working together to achieve a harmony.

: Something that is pointed has a point at one end.

: Particular things are members or parts of one object

: A symbol of something such as an idea is a shape or design that is used to represent it.

: Emphasis is a point of focus,Strongly drawing viewers attention. Anomarly can be reffered to Enphasis because the emphasis is usually an interruption or a break in the rythm and composition of the painting. If there is a painting without emphsis, it can be a boring picture.

:Pattern is an underlying structure that organizes surfaces or structures in a consistent, regular maner. It can be described as a repeating unit of shape or form.

The short trip to the Cape Cod
It was a wonderful day to trip to the Cape Cod, making me excited. I can not still forget the beautiful scene I saw on the way to Cape Cod. Every time I looked out of the window, I met the beautiful landscape. After taking bus about 1 hour on the road which came in contact with the sea, we finally arrived at the Cape Cod. The city just looked like calm and peaceful surrounded with nature.
Luckily, we got a chance to look one of the modern houses inside. Even the house was not big; it was enough to take time during summer vacation. For me, the most interesting thing about this house was the window. There were small spaces under the window that make the circulation of the air possible and effective so that it could help ventilation. The most impressive house was the one that we visited at the last time. Each wall can be opened at the angle of 90 degrees. I just imagined the situation when the wall would be opened. Then, the concept of house would disappear and just the space surrounded nature would come out. I haven’t seen the house before that grows into one with nature. Interestingly, everything, including furniture and structure of the house, matched well with nature with little exterior Ornamentation of the house. The house looked like just a part of the scene. There were frames around the house, making the scenery look like a picture. It would be a changeable picture as the season changes. That was really amazing.
Even, the houses were quite small but they suited with nature and economical. Most of all, I was very impressed that the houses have very good condition even such old ones because people have managed them very well. It was really memorable travel to me. I could enjoy both wonderful architecture and nature and this trip made my stress relieved. I think those house are the best ones with a very light structure for just summer vacation. If I have a chance to visit Cape Cod again, I will visit those houses again.
